Getting Involved

Sponsor a Dogue

Why not sponsor one of our dogs that are being fostered – go here for more information…

We are a volunteer-based organisation which relies on people who love and care for the breed to help with all areas of The Welfare.

Would you like to help and make a difference? If so, what can you do?

Foster Carer

Sometimes we need to take a dog in urgently as it may be on a PTS (put to sleep) ORDER, or we may have be asked by another professional body to help remove a dogue due to abuse. If we have no room in our kennels we need people who are willing to bring these dogs into their homes. This is not an easy job as these dogs may come with many health or behavioural issues.

Transporters

These people help us move Dogues from A to B, To help them get to their new forever homes or if they need medical attention or training or to a temporary foster home.

Dogue Assessors

As we do not have a centre to take in and assess dogues, we have to assess any new dogs that come into us in their homes. This requires someone in that area to go to the dogues home and assess its basic health and temperament.

Home-checkers

Once someone has applied to adopt a dogue from us we need to home check them. This entails going to the potential new owners’ homes and assessing basic requirements such as an enclosed garden and their knowledge and experience of large breeds.

Fundraisers

If you have any ideas or would like to hold an event to raise money for DDB Welfare then please contact us to let us know what you are doing so we can help you and let everyone know on our FaceBook Page. We have sponsorship forms and collection boxes for you.

We are also looking to hold events throughout the year and this requires lots of people to help support and ensure these events are a big success.

What We Do

Rescuing Dogues

The DDB Welfare was established in May 2007 by Bev Graham. This non-profit organisation was put in place for the Welfare of the Dogue de Bordeaux in the UK, and is hoped that this will help many unfortunate Dogue de Bordeaux who may need caring hands!

Sometimes this involves some very sad cases that are in need of medical and nutritional help.  This can be a tremendous cost burden to the association and so we are constantly looking for donations to help us provide this emergency care.

Spay & Neuter

One of our principles is that when we rehome a dog, we do not want them to be used to breed from.  So all of our dogs that are rehomed are either spayed or neutered.  That way we know we are not passing on issues for other rescues down the line.  Plus we know that the homes that they go to are those that want a companion and not a source of income.

Our dogs go to homes that will love and care for them for the rest of their lives.

Rehoming

Sadly lots of dogs end up being put up for rehoming when they become too much for their owners, their circumstances change or they can no longer meet the needs of the dog.  DDBW take those dogs, assess their suitability, health and behaviour whilst in foster care and then match them with a new forever home.

Health Checking

If you are thinking about starting your own breeding program, we are here to advise on what makes a responsible breeder! We know we won’t stop the breeding of these dogs, but if you get the correct advice from the start, take it on board, then at least you set yourself a high standard, to begin with, hopefully, the ones you breed won’t end up on our ‘DDB in Need’ list, which is why we are also here to help and educate breeders too!

What Drives Us

The Dogue de Bordeaux Welfare is an established rescue. We are a registered Breed Rescue with the Kennel Club and work alongside the breed clubs in the UK and Ireland. Being the longest-running breed rescue. It is a volunteer-only, non-profit organisation, supported entirely by voluntary and fundraising contributions which is dedicated to ‘lending caring hands’ to all Dogue de Bordeaux in need in the UK.

Through many years of experience and knowledge of this wonderful breed, we hope this organisation will not only help the unfortunate Dogues, but also help educate the public about the breed, and of course about the rising rate of Dogues that require help in finding ‘forever homes’. We are also here to offer advice to breeders both new and already experienced, in the hope that through education and pulling together we can help protect this breed.

We hope we can generate extra DDB Welfare Volunteers, foster homes, help with transportation, and of course help with fundraising in separate areas of the UK to help care for all the Dogues in need. Please look through the site to learn about the Dogues in need, about us, our aims, our events and how you can help these unfortunate canines.  There are numerous ways in which your help is needed if you are in a position to be ‘lending caring hands’ then please don’t hesitate to contact us!
